Marketing analytics and tracking you can bet the budget on

The short answer

If you can't measure it, it doesn't exist. That's PMG's operating belief, and this is the service where it's most literal. Roughly half the ad accounts we audit are optimising toward conversion events that are duplicated, mis-valued, firing on the wrong page, or missing entirely from the server side.

Every other channel depends on this one. Fix the measurement and the same budget usually performs better — not because anything changed in the ads, but because the algorithms finally know what a good outcome looks like.

What we build

  • Measurement plan: events, parameters, conversions and naming conventions
  • GA4 configuration with clean events, conversions and audiences
  • Google Tag Manager, web and server containers
  • Meta Conversions API with event deduplication
  • Google enhanced conversions and Consent Mode v2
  • Offline conversion imports from your CRM
  • UTM governance across every channel
  • Looker Studio or BigQuery dashboards
  • Reconciliation reports: platform versus back end

The tracking audit checklist

  • Purchase or lead events fire exactly once per conversion
  • Browser and server events share an event ID and deduplicate correctly
  • Conversion values match back-end revenue, net of discounts
  • Consent handling is implemented and doesn't silently drop data
  • UTMs are consistent and survive redirects into your CRM
  • Cross-domain tracking works through payment gateways and booking tools
  • GA4 and your store or CRM reconcile within a tolerable margin
  • Offline outcomes flow back to ad platforms for lead-gen businesses

How we approach measurement

  1. Audit what exists and compare every source against the back end.
  2. Write the measurement plan before touching a tag.
  3. Implement server-side where it improves data quality and page speed.
  4. Validate end to end with test transactions.
  5. Build one scorecard with blended metrics above platform numbers.
  6. Monitor so broken tracking is caught in hours, not months.

What does a marketing analytics setup include?

LayerComponents
CollectionGA4, Google Tag Manager, Meta pixel and Conversions API, Google Ads enhanced conversions, LinkedIn Insight Tag
Server-sideServer-side tagging, first-party cookies, event deduplication
Offline dataCRM stages and sales imported as offline conversions
Warehouse (larger brands)BigQuery or equivalent with GA4 export, ad spend and order data
ReportingMarketing dashboards with blended and channel metrics
AnalysisAttribution comparisons, cohort and LTV analysis, incrementality tests, MMM

Why don't GA4, Meta and Google Ads numbers match?

They measure different things by design:

SourceCountsTypical difference
Meta Ads ManagerClicks and views within its attribution window, plus modelled conversionsOften higher than GA4 for prospecting
Google AdsClicks (and engaged views) within its window, data-driven attributionCredits Google touchpoints
GA4Sessions and events across all sources, its own attribution modelUndercounts where consent or blockers stop tracking
Shopify / CRMActual orders and outcomesThe source of truth for revenue

The goal isn't to make them match — it's to understand the gaps, keep them stable, and make decisions on blended truth. See attribution and our comparison of last-click vs data-driven attribution.

The three layers of measurement

  1. Platform attribution — fast, granular, biased toward each platform. Use it for daily optimisation inside a channel.
  2. Blended metrics — MER, new-customer CAC, contribution margin. Use them to judge the whole programme.
  3. Incrementality — geo holdouts, conversion lift studies and, at scale, marketing mix modelling. Use them to decide how much each channel really deserves.

What does marketing analytics cost?

Analytics work splits into one-time builds and ongoing support. Tracking audits and implementation (GA4, GTM, pixels, Conversions API, server-side tagging, offline conversions) are usually scoped as projects — our pricing page gives the market range for one-time setups. Ongoing analytics — maintenance, dashboards, analysis and tests — can be part of a performance retainer or a separate monthly fee. Server-side tagging also carries modest cloud hosting costs. Plus 18% GST.

Tracking and privacy in India

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, notified in November 2025, phase in obligations over 18 months, with consent-manager provisions from November 2026 and remaining duties by May 2027 (PIB). For tracking, that means:

  • Clear notice of what data is collected and why
  • Consent captured where required, and honoured by tags
  • Collecting only what's needed; hashing personal data before sending to platforms
  • Retention limits and a process for access and deletion requests

Analytics needs by business type

BusinessKey trackingKey report
eCommercePurchases with value, server-side eventsMER, new-customer CAC, cohort LTV
Lead generationLeads, CRM stages, offline conversionsCost per qualified lead and sale
SaaSSign-ups, activations, pipelineCAC payback, pipeline by channel
AppsInstalls, in-app eventsCost per activated user, retention

A worked example: three dashboards that disagreed

A D2C brand's GA4, Meta and Google Ads each reported different sales numbers. We aligned conversion definitions, deduplicated pixel and server events, fixed consent mode, and built one dashboard with blended MER from back-end orders alongside platform data. The team stopped arguing about numbers and started making budget decisions.

How a Marketing Analytics engagement with PMG runs

  1. Audit (week 0–1). Accounts, analytics, tracking, website, CRM flow and competitors reviewed, with a written list of what's broken, what's wasted and the three moves we'd make first.
  2. Plan (week 1–2). Break-even ROAS or a target cost per lead, a measurement plan and a 90-day roadmap for Marketing Analytics, with owners and dates.
  3. Launch (week 2–4). Clean structures, verified conversion signals, the first creative sprint and landing-page fixes.
  4. Optimise (months 2–3). A weekly test cadence, with budget following the cheapest incremental results rather than platform-reported ones.
  5. Scale (month 3 onwards). New channels, geographies and retention loops, added only when the economics hold.

Every week you get a one-page scorecard, a change log, the test board and a 30-minute call with your strategist. See how we work and pricing for details.

Why teams choose PMG for Marketing Analytics

  • Measurement first. Unit economics and clean tracking come before any increase in spend.
  • You own everything. Ad accounts, data and creative stay in your name; ad spend goes straight to the platforms.
  • Senior hands on the account. The strategist you speak to is the person running it.
  • Weekly transparency. Scorecard, change log and test board — every week.
  • Short minimum terms. We keep clients with results, not contracts.
  • India and international. One Mumbai team running campaigns across Indian cities and overseas markets, Mon–Sat, 7am–9pm IST.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't GA4 match Meta or Google Ads?

Different attribution models, windows, consent handling and identity resolution. They'll never match exactly. The goal is that each reconciles sensibly with your back end.

Do we need server-side tracking?

For most businesses spending seriously on ads, yes. It improves data completeness, supports Conversions API and can speed up your site by moving scripts off the browser.

Is our data compliant with Indian privacy law?

We implement consent handling and data minimisation, but compliance under the DPDP Act depends on your wider practices. We'll flag risks and work with your legal adviser.

What is the most common tracking problem you find?

Duplicate or mis-configured purchase and lead events — for example, a pixel and a plugin both firing a purchase, or every form view counted as a lead. Campaigns then optimise toward the wrong outcome.

Do small businesses need server-side tracking?

Not always. A clean GA4 and pixel setup with Conversions API through a platform integration is enough for many. Server-side tagging becomes worthwhile as spend and data needs grow.

Can you build a single dashboard for all channels?

Yes — spend, results and cost by channel, blended metrics, and business outcomes from your store or CRM, refreshed automatically.

What is marketing mix modelling?

A statistical method that estimates how much each channel contributes to sales over time, using aggregated data rather than user tracking. It suits larger brands with a year or more of data. See MMM.

How do we know our tracking is accurate?

Reconcile tracked conversions against orders or CRM records weekly. A stable, explainable gap is acceptable; a changing or unexplained gap means something is broken.

What is server-side tracking?

Sending conversion data from your server to analytics and ad platforms, making measurement more reliable when browsers block scripts.

Do we need GA4 if we have platform reports?

Yes — GA4 gives an independent, cross-channel view, while back-end data provides the ground truth.

How do you handle consent for tracking?

With consent banners and consent mode where required, and data handling aligned with applicable privacy laws.

How long does Marketing Analytics take to show results?

Tracking fixes and search campaigns often show improvement within two to four weeks; prospecting on Meta or YouTube usually needs three to six weeks of creative testing; SEO compounds over three to nine months. We agree leading indicators up front so progress is visible early.

Is there a long contract?

No. Minimum terms are short, because we would rather keep clients with results than with contracts.

Will we own the ad accounts and data?

Yes. Everything runs in your own accounts with partner access for PMG, and you can see it all at any time.

What do you need from us to start?

Access to ad accounts and analytics, your margins and order values (or deal values), brand assets, and a decision-maker available for a weekly 30-minute call.
