Education marketing measured in enrolments
The short answer
Education purchases are made by families, researched for months and concentrated into short admission windows. A lead generated in October for a June intake needs nurturing for months; a lead generated during the admission rush needs a counsellor call within minutes.
PMG runs education marketing around enrolments: qualification by course, eligibility and intake; speed-to-lead for peak season; nurture for long cycles; and reporting on cost per counselling session and enrolment.
Who we work with
- Schools — admissions for specific grades and catchments
- Higher education — undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programmes
- Coaching and test prep — competitive exams, entrance tests and language tests
- Edtech — online courses, upskilling and certifications
- Study abroad consultancies
Compliance and credibility
- Results, rankings and placement claims substantiated and stated accurately
- No guaranteed admissions, ranks or jobs

The admissions funnel
- Awareness — YouTube, content and social built around student and parent questions.
- Enquiry — search, lead forms and click-to-WhatsApp, qualified by course and eligibility.
- Counselling — instant WhatsApp response, then a counsellor call within minutes in peak season.
- Application — reminders, document checklists and deadline nudges.
- Enrolment — fee payment and onboarding.
- Feedback loop — enrolments sent back to ad platforms as offline conversions.
The admissions calendar
- Board results season — undergraduate and coaching demand surges
- Entrance exam cycles — test-prep enrolment windows around each major exam
- Intake deadlines — study-abroad demand tied to university intakes
- Summer — short courses and skill programmes
- Year-round — upskilling and professional certifications
What to measure
- Cost per counselling session attended
- Cost per application and per enrolment
- Counsellor connect rate and response time
- Lead-to-enrolment rate by course and channel
- Fee realisation after enrolment
Compliance: what education advertisers must not claim
The Central Consumer Protection Authority issued the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisement in Coaching Sector, 2024 on 13 November 2024. They prohibit claims such as 100% selection or guaranteed jobs, and require institutes that advertise toppers' results to disclose details such as the rank, the course the candidate took, its duration and whether it was paid, with disclaimers shown in the same font size as the main claim (TaxGuru summary). Penalties follow the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
In practice, our education campaigns:
- Use verifiable, disclosed results only
- Avoid guaranteed-outcome language
- Keep fee, duration and refund information accurate and consistent across ads and landing pages
- Check creator and alumni content against the same rules

Admissions calendar planning
- Pre-season (3–4 months before) — content, SEO, YouTube explainers, audience building.
- Launch — search and paid social for applications, counselling slots opened.
- Peak — maximum budgets aligned with counsellor capacity; daily lead-quality reviews.
- Late season — retargeting, scholarship deadlines, last-seat messaging (truthful).
- Post-season — alumni content, referral programmes, next-cycle planning.
Education marketing by institution type
| Institution | Key audience | Key channels |
|---|---|---|
| Schools | Parents | Search, local SEO, Meta |
| Coaching institutes | Students and parents | YouTube, Meta, search |
| Universities | Students, parents, international applicants | Search, YouTube, content |
| Online courses and edtech | Working professionals | Search, LinkedIn, webinars |
| Study-abroad consultants | Students and parents | Search, Meta, events |
A worked example
A university's leads came in a rush near deadlines, overwhelming counsellors. We started awareness campaigns months earlier, nurtured leads with programme content and webinars, and scored leads so counsellors focused on likely applicants. Applications became steadier and conversion improved.

Services we deploy here
How a Education & Edtech marketing engagement with PMG runs
- Audit (week 0–1). Accounts, analytics, tracking, website, CRM flow and competitors reviewed, with a written list of what's broken, what's wasted and the three moves we'd make first.
- Plan (week 1–2). Break-even ROAS or a target cost per lead, a measurement plan and a 90-day roadmap for Education & Edtech marketing, with owners and dates.
- Launch (week 2–4). Clean structures, verified conversion signals, the first creative sprint and landing-page fixes.
- Optimise (months 2–3). A weekly test cadence, with budget following the cheapest incremental results rather than platform-reported ones.
- Scale (month 3 onwards). New channels, geographies and retention loops, added only when the economics hold.
Every week you get a one-page scorecard, a change log, the test board and a 30-minute call with your strategist. See how we work and pricing for details.

- Tracking check
- Pixels, Conversions API, GA4 events and offline conversions — what is firing, what is double-counted, what is missing.
- Wasted spend
- Search terms, placements, audiences and overlap that cost money without producing qualified leads or sales.
- Conversion path
- Landing page speed, message match, form friction and follow-up time — where interested people drop off.
- 90-day priorities
- The three changes we would make first, with the metric each one should move.
Frequently asked questions
How many leads can our counsellors handle?
That's the first question we ask. Lead volume beyond counsellor capacity wastes money — we plan campaigns around it.
Is YouTube effective for education?
Very. Students and parents watch detailed explanations of courses, careers and exams, and those viewers are often well-qualified.
When should admissions campaigns start?
Awareness and nurture months before the window; high-intent capture intensifies as deadlines approach.
Can coaching institutes advertise toppers' results?
Yes, within the CCPA guidelines: results must be genuine, with the required disclosures — such as rank, course taken and duration — shown clearly and in the same font size as the claim.
What is a good cost per enrolment?
It depends on fee levels and margins. Set a target as a share of first-year fee revenue, then compare channels against it.
Should edtech companies use free classes or webinars?
They're effective for demonstrating teaching quality, provided they're followed quickly by counselling and a clear enrolment path.
How do we handle regional languages?
Create native-language creative and landing pages for regions with strong demand, and staff counsellors who speak those languages.
When should universities start admission campaigns?
Several months before application windows open, with awareness first and lead capture closer to deadlines.
Can edtech companies run ads on YouTube?
Yes — YouTube is one of the strongest channels for education, especially with teaching content.
How do we market to international students?
With country-specific campaigns, information on visas and costs, and partnerships with counsellors.
Is there a long contract?
No. Minimum terms are short, because we would rather keep clients with results than with contracts.
Will we own the ad accounts and data?
Yes. Everything runs in your own accounts with partner access for PMG, and you can see it all at any time.
What do you need from us to start?
Access to ad accounts and analytics, your margins and order values (or deal values), brand assets, and a decision-maker available for a weekly 30-minute call.
